How to Feel at Home When You're Living Far from Home

Living abroad is an exciting adventure — and sometimes, a disorienting one. Even when everything is carefully planned, even when the change was fully chosen and embraced, something inside can shift. A kind of inner floating, as if part of you is still searching for solid ground.
Moving to a new country is not just about changing location. It’s about changing habits, social codes, language, rhythms. It’s also, at times, about feeling slightly lost within.
Even when life abroad looks great on paper, full of promise and opportunity, many people still carry this quiet feeling inside:
“I’m here, but I don’t really feel present.”“Everything’s fine, but I don’t feel aligned.”“I feel caught between two worlds, floating somewhere in between.”
This is more common than you think. And it makes sense.
Living elsewhere means learning to find yourself differently
As an expat myself, I understand this feeling deeply.I'm French, and I’ve worked and lived in Spain, the United States, Italy, Egypt… Each move required me to redefine myself, find a new internal balance, often invisible from the outside.Today, I live happily in Belgium, where I have the pleasure of supporting people from all over the world — especially in Waterloo, home to the largest English-speaking community in the country, and in Ixelles, a vibrant multicultural area of Brussels.
What I often hear in sessions
Many people tell me they enjoy their host country, appreciate the change, and feel grateful for the opportunity — yet something still feels slightly off, like they haven’t quite landed.
Clients often say:
“I feel like I’ve lost myself along the way.”
“I can’t seem to settle.”
“I want to feel truly at ease here.”
The good news is: it’s absolutely possible. Not by going back to the past, or by forcing yourself to adapt at all costs, but by creating something new — something softer, more authentic, more aligned with the person you’ve become.
Feeling at home is something you can build
It often starts with simple things:
having a space where you can be heard, with no pressure
bringing clarity to what you’re experiencing
reconnecting with what truly nourishes you — beyond language, context, or external expectations
My work is to support you in:
releasing what weighs you down
refocusing on what really matters
moving forward, one step at a time, with greater confidence
Sessions made simple
I offer coaching and hypnotherapy in Waterloo, in Ixelles, or online, depending on what suits you best.
Sessions are available in English or French, with a calm, supportive and respectful approach.
A gentle first step
If you’re curious but unsure where to begin, I offer a free 15-minute discovery call, just to get to know each other and see if my work feels right for you.
Because yes, it is possible to feel well where you are — even far from “home.”Because you already hold within you the resources to create a new kind of home, one that feels safe and true. And because it’s never too late to feel fully at home — in yourself, and in your life.
